This page use to be full of art babble but I figure I need to be honest with myself these days:
Basically, I was interested in pattern making in the city and I thought creating people with interconnected heads seemed appropriate. I threw some sort of iphone/blackberry-esque object in their hands to suggest an idea of people all being inherently connected through digital media.
By doing a massive hit, this seemed like an appropriate expression, particularly when it was on the street and the primitiveness of the mark-making creates a jarring tension between the 'idea' and the output itself.(okay, so that last sentence really fell apart and doesn't make sense...my apologies)
I post-rationalize this(I know that's a terrible thing to do but I'm doing it anyways...) by considering this as a reconsideration of Keith Haring's drawings for our contemporary digital worl. Not that I think I'm as good as him, but it's interesting to see that his figures are separate individuals in celebration while I guess mine are much more sombre and 'plugged in.' Sign of the times I guess...
Having said all of that, I was more interested in getting out onto the street and trying to create a massive, repetitive pattern that worked more appropriately outside than it would in a gallery setting. I like this idea being on the street as I can get it at a scope and scale that creates a real delight, visceralness and 'awesomeness' to the viewer.
